OPPO has been climbing the ranks in the smartphone market lately, especially in the Chinese smartphone market, where it recently beat the likes of Huawei and Xiaomi, to become the top Chinese smartphone manufacturer of the third quarter of 2016. Huawei and Xiaomi, have constantly been at the top of the pack these past couple of years, but both companies have been facing stiffer competition from the likes of OPPO and Vivo. OPPO is mainly known for its mid-range smartphones, which includes the OPPO F1s, OPPO R9s and R9s Plus. Its most recent smartphones being the OPPO R9s and R9s Plus, which were originally released around two months ago, in October.
However, OPPO has now decided to give consumers a new color option for the smaller OPPO R9s, and this color happens to be Red. The new color variant was launched today in China, and it will be available to consumers in the country from this Christmas Eve, which falls on December 24th for 2,799 Yuan ($403), meaning there is no price difference between the original color variants and the new Red offering. Pre-orders for the smartphone has already been open to customers, but there is no word on whether or not this new color variant will be available outside of China for the time being. It should also be noted that the larger OPPO R9s Plus, which comes with a 6.0-inch display, didn’t receive any new color options. Apart from being a new color, the internals of the Red OPPO R9s, is identical to the other colors.
The OPPO R9s is a mid-range offering which comes packed with a 5.5-inch full HD display with 2.5D curved glass, along with Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5 protection on top of it. Powering the device is a Snapdragon 625 chipset which is clocked at 2GHz and it is coupled with an Adreno 506 GPU to handle graphics. Memory wise, the smartphones comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage which can expanded via the micro SD card slot located on the device. For optics, the OPPO R9s sports a 16-megapixel shooter on the rear with an aperture of f/1.7, while the front gets a 16-megapixel camera too, but with a f/2.0 aperture. This dual SIM device features a fingerprint scanner integrated into the home button and also comes with a 3,100mAh battery which supports VOOC Flash Charge.
